[EN] The objective of this study was to develop and analyze a methodology to support the decision-making process for water allocations as a strategy for water demand management in irrigation districts. The developed methodology is based on the evaluation and simulation of irrigated areas. The Ador-simulation model has been applied for this purpose in two different surface irrigation districts in Spain and the USA. The results indicate that this strategy is useful in limiting water demand where water management can be improved. However, water allocations produce inequalities among farms where the variability in soils and infrastructures is large. This constraint can limit the implementation of this kind of strategy, particularly in old irrigated areas.
