Abstract

[EN] By considering the occupation of space as a cultural paradigm characteristic of post-industrial economies, this article maps, from the nineties onwards, several tours of the Spanish theatrical stage from three different, but related perspectives: action as a form of resistance, action as a collective way to inhabit a space, and action as a way to institute a space conceived as a public sphere. Methodologically, I consider three levels of analysis of the performing event: as representation, as action, and as situation. By acknowledging the intertwined nature of these concepts, this article considers works by Angélica Liddell, Aitana Cordero, Rodrigo García, Vicente Arlandis, Juan Domínguez, Orquestina de Pigmeos, and Vértebro. The historical framework of my article considers the evolution of artistic practices in relation to theorizations of public space, while discussing the individual or collective works of The Living Theatre, Tehching Hsieh, and Mladen Stilinovié.
