Abstract

La cueva de El Soplao (Cantabria) posee unas características geomorfológicas de gran interés, con un amplio muestrario de formas y depósitos endokársticos. El estudio geomorfológico de las cavidades kársticas es una herramienta muy potente para el análisis de la génesis y evolución de las redes subterráneas. En España, este tipo de trabajos tuvo una época dorada n la década de los años sesenta del siglo XX, para caer prácticamente en el olvido en las décadas posteriores. Al final de dicho siglo y durante los años transcurridos hasta la actualidad en el siglo XXI, han vuelto a resurgir las investigaciones geomorfológicas endokársticas en diversas cavidades españolas. Uno de los ejemplos más recientes es el estudio geomorfológico de El Soplao, realizada por investigadores del Instituto Geológico y Minero de España entre los años 2011 y 2013. En este trabajo se presentan los resultados obtenidos, plasmados en una cartografía geomorfológica de la planta de la cavidad, un corte geomorfológico longitudinal y dieciocho cortes geomorfológicos transversales, todos ellos correspondientes al sector turístico de la cueva y al sector denominado turismo de aventura.
