Retos en la investigación de las aguas subterráneas ante el cambio climático.

Abstract

Los nuevos escenarios producidos por el cambio climático, de aumento de las temperaturas, y disminución y mayor concentración de las precipitaciones, va a llevar consigo una serie de alteraciones tanto en los procesos incluidos en la fase subterránea del ciclo hidrológico, como en los ecosistemas asociados a las aguas subterráneas. En el presente artículo se analiza cómo podría afectar el cambio climático a las aguas subterráneas en las sucesivas etapas que integran dicha fase subterránea, así como en los ecosistemas asociados. A la vez, se describen aquellas iniciativas que han favorecido el desarrollo de actuaciones en el ámbito de las aguas subterráneas que suponen el incremento de recursos, bien por movilización temporal de reservas, o bien por incremento de la regulación conjunta de aguas subterráneas y superficiales. Se comprende por tanto, que las aguas subterráneas constituyan un recurso estratégico indiscutible para mitigar los efectos negativos que el cambio climático va a producir en los recursos hídricos.
