Abstract

A comparative geochemical study of peat deposits from bog and marsh (with marine influence) deposits has been performed. The bog is located in Tremedal Mountains (Teruel, Iberian Range, Spain) and the marsh in the Castellon coast (east Spain). Peat from bog deposits is mainly made ofSphagnum moss, and the peat from marhs shows mainlygrasses and sedges (funcus, Thypha andPhragmites) and fortuitously sorne halofites (Salicornia). The geochemical analyses were performed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and atomic emision spectrometry (ICP-MS and ICP-AES). The greatervalues for B, Sr, Na, Mg, Fe and Swere found in marsh deposits, and the greater contents ofBa, Be, Cu for the bog deposits. V has a similar concentration in both environments.
