Abstract

The appearance of the pandemics caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19) has attracted the interest on the materials and surfaces than can spread the infection. Since more than 30 years ago active research has been carried on materials with biocidal activity, this is, materials able to inactivate or prevent the proliferation of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, funghi, protozoa). The consolidated strategies for the preparation of polymers with biocidal activity are summarized in this article, focusing the attention on surfaces and textile materials
