Abstract

[EN] The botanical illustrators who have been partners in the work of identifying plants in Catalonia are under review in this paper. The use made of the illustrations of Hippolyte Coste’s “Flore descriptive et illustrée de la France” first, for the “Flora de Catalunya” and, later, the “Flora dels Països Catalans” stands out. In these works it is difficult to discover the authorship of the illustrations. The importance of scientific illustration is highlighted, as it enables the work in question to reach beyond the world of the botanical specialist, and allows our knowledge of plants to be spread among those interested in nature
