En legajos conservados en los archivos de la Inquisición en España y Portugal se documentan numerosas versiones antiguas del llamado «conjuro de la rosa» que se empleaba para curar la erisipela. Tal conjuro se sigue utilizando con los mismos fines curativos en las tradiciones modernas de España, Portugal e Hispanoamérica. Además, se relaciona con prácticas curativas que se basan en el empleo de rosas para la curación de diversas enfermedades cutáneas. De la suma y contraste de todos estos datos se pueden deducir conclusiones muy significativas sobre las bases antropológicas, la evolución y las implicaciones poéticas de una parcela de la medicina tradicional.
