Abstract

[ES] José Macpherson (1839-1902), andaluz y gaditano, de padre escocés y geólogo aficionado, introdujo en España las técnicas más modernas para su tiempo de estudio de rocas y minerales así como las ideas más progresistas en geología global. Su amistad en Cádiz con Giner de los Ríos desde 1875, le llevó en Madrid a contactar con la Institución Libre de Enseñanza que adoptó muchas de sus ideas geológicas. El primer centenario del fallecimiento de Macpherson, ofrece una ocasión para honrar su memoria.

[EN] José Macpherson (1839-1902), andalousian born in Cádiz, with scottish father and amateur geologist, introduced in Spain the most avanced for the study of rocks and minerals techniques, just like the most avanced in Global Geology ideas. Their friendship in Cadiz with Giner de los Ríos from 1875, conduced him later in Madrid to contact with the Teaching Free Institution, which adopted many of his geological ideas. The Macpherson death first centennial offer the opportunity for memory honour.
