Abstract

[EN] The analysis of the geometry of the river Ebro from Alfaro-Mendavia and reveals that there are 44 ma- jor meanders. The total length of this course is 75,3 km as calculated based on 1266 points determined in the same river. Every two points define a segment in which its orientation is dominant according to the NW-SE, but there are minority perpendicular directions, due to the sinusoidal configuration which printed the river meanders, caused probably by a sufficient flow on a very low channel slope. The critical path, defined by straight lines between sudden changes in direction and independent of the presence of meanders, indicates areas in which the Ebro river changed its course orientation dominant. The causes of these changes is the existence of cliffs shaped by the same river, mainly in gypsum rocks, which impede the continuity and promote changes of direction, and keep the river between a valley almost straight with a well defined margins. Also consider the existence of faults transverse to the river that promote the formation of changes in its trajectory.
