Investigación e Integración. La Ruta del Cacao en América Latina

Abstract

[EN] Within the framework of "The Route of Cacao in Latin America", a workshop held in Barlovento (Venezuela) under the auspices of UNESCO and the Venezuelan government, a homonym project was approved in order to develop a comprehensive study on cacao, including historical, anthropological, and cultural aspects related to the subject. The following goals are to be highlighted: a) To present a "History of Cacao in Latin America"; b) To develop the "Archives of Cacao", including a data bank, an inventory and a catalogue of historically and culturally relevant Latin American cacao estates; c) To establish a methodology that may be used as a reference point in similar projects. Achieving these goals implies developing local and regional networks of researchers able to carry out a comprehensive analysis on the History of Cacao in the Latin American territories of the route. These territories may have been producers, consumer countries or transit areas; therefore the whole continent is involved in the study. This research, sponsored and coordinated by UNESCO, may be an outstanding example of Latin American cooperation and integration.
