Abstract

[EN] It is important to understand how to breed fish in captivity and how to produce their offspring, in order to help its conservation in the wild. Ornamental fish are a significant component of the international aquarium trade, and the importance of this industry can contribute to the sustainable development of aquatic resources, by producing these organisms through aquaculture. Keeping aquatic animals in captivity for food production dates back to a long time before Christ. However, in China and in the ancient Egypt, these animals began to take on decorative importance and a sign of social status. The first public aquarium that exposed marine life appeared in 1940, and along with the expansion of freshwater aquariums, the marine aquarium was born. It began to be structured in the mid 1950-60s, when marine fish began to be imported from Sri-Lanka, followed by fish from the Philippines and Hawaii. However, the unplanned use of animals from the environment for these activities impacts the environment. Reef environments, in addition to containing great biological diversity, serve the oceans as a food source, shelter and breeding site, and although it occupies less than 1% of the ocean area, it is responsible for more than 25% of species diversity
