Abstract

[EN] Since the foundation of the Centro de Estudios Históricos in Madrid (1910), a group of Human Studies researchers began working in a project for establishing a new conception of the Spanish History and Culture. The incorporated European Thought concepts and ideas, especially French and German scientific methodologies which allowed them to utilize critical and scientific tools to shape a new cultural nationalism based on a different historical background. Researching the origins of the Spanish Language and Literature, Menéndez Pidal's philological school tried to achive the same goals by proving three basic ideas: 1. -Castilla is the birthplace os Spain's national conscience: 2.-Spaniards are the representatives of such national conscience; 3.- West European culture as a spiritual frame into which Spain's national culture will be added.
