Abstract

[EN] One of the benefits of fungal endophytes of Epichloë/Neotyphodium genera is that infected plants are more resistant to abiotic stresses such a drought or heavy metals. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the fungal endophyte Epichloë festucae in the growth of Festuca rubra plants in saline conditions. There are several subspecies adapted to oligotrophic, mesotrophic or saline environments. An experiment with plants of Festuca rubra infected and non-infected by Epichloë festucae, obtained from two dehesas in the province of Salamanca, was designed. Plants grown in pots were treated with different saline concentrations, in a glass-house. The results showed a decrease of the growth parameters with increasing salt concentration. Considering the decrease in biomass respect to the controls an effect of the endophyte presence was observed: the decrease in leaf dry weight was greater in infected than in non-infected plants.
