[EN] Alonso de Sandoval is one of the most interesting intellectuals in the critical discourse on the legitimacy of slavery in the colonial era. Jesuit Father in charge of baptizing the African slaves in Cartagena de Indias dedicated more than 40 years to evangelize and understand the cultural diversity of slaves recently arrived at Cartagena. The main purpose of this paper is to analyse the literary value of his work De instauranda Aethiopum salute, in which Sandoval offers a meaningful ethnographic study on enslaved human groups along with his philosophical reflections about the concept of person, body symbolism and race.
