Abstract

Analiza las relaciones entre catalanes y genoveses desde el s. XII, amistosas primero, con colaboración mútua en la expedición contra Almería y la conquista de Tortosa, aunque con tensiones en alguna ocasión por causa del dominio catalán en Provenza. La progresiva expansión catalana, primero en Mallorca, después en Sicilia, más tarde en Cerdeña, llevó a la confrontación abierta en los siglos XIV y XV, cuando Génova se sintió amenazada en sus intereses políticos y económicos. Analiza los textos de los documentos, de las crónicas y de fuentes literarias para captar el cambio de opinión de los catalanes respecto a los genoveses, más palpable en estas últimas, puesto que los documentos muestran mayor contención, salvo los de Alfonso el Magnánimo, que son insultantes. Señala el contraste con el respeto mutuo entre Barcelona y Génova, incluso en tiempo de la guerra de Alfonso el Magnánimo, que buscaba el exterminio de Génova.
