[EN] In the emancipation of the former Spanish dominions of America, the possibility of forming a single political community was real between 1790 and 1826. The utopia of Spanish-American unity was reflected in Miranda's plans, was a symbolic element shared by many of the heroes of independence, and was given practical expression with Bolívar and his attempt to confederate the nations already constituted as sovereign states through the Congress of Panama. Each of these projects responded to a different moment in the crisis that put an end to the Spanish Monarchy and opened the complex process of independence
