Propiedades mecánicas y fractografía de nanocompuestos de PMMA

Abstract

Se construyeron materiales compuestos de poli-metil meta-acrilato (PMMA) con diferentes rellenos de óxido de titanio nanoestructurado: nanopartículas, nanotubos y nanobarras. Las nanopartículas que se utilizaron son comerciales (Degussa P25). Los nanotubos de óxido de titanio se prepararon por un método hidrotermal a partir de anatasa comercial (Sigma-Aldrich) en medio fuertemente alcalino y temperatura de aproximadamente 135°C. Las nanobarras de Ti02 se obtuvieron a partir de los nanotubos mediante tratamiento térmico a 400°C. La integración de los nanomateriales en la matriz se llevó a cabo en dos etapas: Polimerización radicalaria de MMA en presencia de los nanomateriales y, posteriormente, mezcla con PMMA comercial (Sigma-Aldrich, Pm ~ 1 06) mediante medios mecánicos dando lugar a materiales compuestos con un 3% de relleno. A partir de las mezclas de polvo, se consolidaron preformas de forma cilíndrica (diámetro 90 mm, altura 4 mm) mediante prensa de platos calientes (Specac, UK) y de las cuales se mecanizaron probetas de tracción tipo III, según ASTM 638 M por corte con chorro de agua. Los ensayos de tracción se realizaron a temperatura controlada de 23±2 oc y se obtuvieron medidas de la tensión de ruptura, la elongación a la rotura y el módulo elástico. Igualmente, se encontró una estimación de la energía de rotura. Posteriormente, se realizó un estudio fractográfico mediante microscopio electrónico de barrido de emisión de campo (Carl Zeiss, Jena, Alemania) el cual permitió correlacionar los resultados obtenidos mediante el ensayo de tracción con la microestructura del material.
