Abstract

Isla Decepción (DI) es el volcán que presenta una mayor actividad de las Islas Shetland del Sur, con más de 20 erupciones en los últimos dos siglos. Desde su descubrimiento en 1820, el número de bases científicas, actividades turísticas y el tráfico marítimo y aéreo ha aumentado considerablemente. De forma similar ocurre entre el Archipiélago de las Shetland del Sur y laPeninsula Antártica, en los que se albergan 25 estacione científicas y3 campamentos de verano. El incremento en la cantidad de infraestructuras y población expuesta de toda esta zona a una futura erupción en DI aumenta la necesidad de avanzar en el conocimiento de la historia volcánica y magmática de la isla.En este trabajo llevamos a cabo una revisión detallada y actualizada sobre el registro de tefras de DI. Para ello, hemos compilado la base de datos DecTephra (Deception Island Tephra Record), en la que se registra la información más relevante de todas las capas de tefra conocidas hasta la fecha con DI como área de fuente. DecTephra incluye 335 capas de tefra y criptotefra encontradas en sedimentos marinos/lacustres y testigos de hielo. Para cada capa de tefra, se aporta información sobre (i) ubicación (p. ej. latitud, longitud) y características del lugar de muestreo (p. ej. longitud del testigo de sedimento); y (ii) características de la tefra (p. ej. edad, química). El análisis de la información incluida en esta nueva base de datos muestra que las tefras de DI pueden observarse en numerosos lugares de muestreo próximos (2.900 km)
