Abstract

{ENG}Three alternative agricultural managements [Continuous Traditional (Tt), Organic (To), and Improved Traditional (Tm)] were tested from 2002 to 2005, in an Acrisol located in Atecuaro (Michoacan), and compared with the Traditional Fallow system (AV):. The initial soil pH (2002) was very acidic. A pH correction was performed in 2003 by adding the equivalent to 5 Mg ha-1 of CaCO3 to the experimental plots. Liming had a positive influence on physic-chemical soil characteristics related to the soil exchange complex, thought its effect diminished with time. The soil pH increase affected only the superficial layer; percentage of base saturation increased in average 50 % in the 0-10 cm layer, but in 2005 the increment was only a 20 % in relation to 2002. The C increased in all treatments in 2005 at the 10-20 cm depth, but the To accumulated more C and N than the other treatments. Available P increased significantly in 2003 in Tm and To at the 0-20 cm depth, but this increment was not maintained until 2005.
