[EN] The present study deals with the legal materials on slaves found in Sahnün's Mudawwana. Special attention is given to slaves marriage, the marriage of a free man to a slave woman, the dowry, qualifications for marriage, the umin walad and her status, etc. The Miliki school, according to the Mudawwana, considers the slave as the equal of a minor free man, but it accords him capacities which are not recognised by other schools of law (for example, the slave may own properties, decide on his marriage and pay the dowry).
