The therapeutic target in chemokine receptors for the screening of compounds useful for the treatment of pahtological processes involving chemokine signaling

Abstract

The invention provides a molecular target (SEQ ID NO: 1) within chemokine receptors, specifically located within the transmembrane VI region of the CXCR4 chemokine receptor, which enables the detection and/or design of molecules whose union selectively inhibits chemokine-mediated receptor oligomerization, preferably CXCL12 chemokine-mediated CXCR4 receptor oligomerization. Since this oligomerization is the active conformational state of these chemokine/chemokine receptor complexes, the inhibition of this molecular target represents a new therapeutic approach to intervening in cellular responses associated with chemokine signaling, including pathological process such as inflammation or cell migration in cancer.
