Archaeology and Geomatics: Harvesting the benefits of 10 years of training in the Iberian Peninsula (2006-2015)

Abstract

Las tecnologías digitales tienen numerosas aplicaciones en arqueología que van desde la documentación de la evidencia arqueológica y el análisis de datos de investigación hasta la presentación de resultados para un público más amplio. Este volumen consta de varios estudios sobre el uso de métodos tales como LiDAR (detección de luz y rango), prospección arqueológica, visibilidad, movilidad y el análisis de la distribución espacial de objetos arqueológicos, aplicados en diversos contextos. Los estudios de caso varían ampliamente e incluyen el Pleistoceno tardío en la Península Ibérica del Norte, el período republicano romano en el sur de Italia, el período Formativo en los Andes y la Guerra Civil Española de 1936-39. En 2005, se lanzó en España (entonces) un curso de postgrado pionero sobre la aplicabilidad de las tecnologías geoespaciales digitales para la arqueología. De manera bastante inesperada, el curso ha estado vivo anualmente por más de 10 años hasta el momento, habiendo capacitado a alrededor de 300 jóvenes arqueólogos de España, Portugal y América Latina en el uso crítico de las herramientas populares actuales como GIS, GPS, sensores remotos y LiDAR para la documentación y el análisis del registro arqueológico. Para conmemorar los primeros 10 años del curso, se organizó una conferencia en Mérida (España) en octubre de 2015. Se invitó a antiguos alumnos a presentar y debatir sobre su investigación en la que se utilizaron estas tecnologías de manera intensiva; este libro editado es una selección de esas contribuciones. A través de una serie de casos de estudio muy diversos, se presentan aplicaciones técnicamente sofisticadas y teóricamente informadas de tales tecnologías digitales. Todos los colaboradores son jóvenes investigadores, ya sean doctores jóvenes o estudiantes de doctorado, provenientes de contextos y enfoques arqueológicos bastante variados.
