Abstract

In this paper we present the results of a census on two raptors breeding species (Buteo buteo L. and Accipiter nisus L.) carried out in the Canary Archipelago. The population has been estimated comprises 430-445 and 150 breeding pairs respectively. The Common Bazzard distribution includes all the islands except Lanzarote and the small oriental islets. The most tipical habitats are forestal edges and ravines. Contrary, the Sparrowhawk is present only in forestal regions located at the Western and Central islands. Nevertheles there are not recent breeding records in Gran Canaria Island.
