Americanismos formados con el sufijo -illo,-illa en el siglo XVI

Abstract

Este trabajo trata de cómo cambiaron las palabras y el vocabulario cuando el español fue trasplantado a América. De manera específica analiza los americanismos léxicos que se formaron por derivación con el sufijo apreciativo -illo, -illa, como armadillo o vainilla, en la franja cronológica de 1495 a 1600. La formación de palabras mediante este procedimiento derivativo es un fenómeno bien conocido del español en general (Alvar y Pottier, 1983; González Ollé y Casado Velarde, 1992; Lang, 1992; Dee, 1997; Pascual, 1997-1998; Eddington, 2002; Pena, 2003; Pharies, 2004, entre otros) y del español americano en particular (Monge, 1996). Gracias a los avances digitales (Rojo, 2012), actualmente disponemos de más evidencias empíricas que muestran las distintas formas y valores de las nuevas palabras que allí se crearon. Mi objetivo es revisar este fenómeno analizando los datos que hoy día aportan los grandes corpus históricos.
