Adhesivos poliméricos en biomedicina: apósitos, reparaciones quirúrgicas y reconstrucciones dentales

Abstract

El cierre de heridas, las reparaciones quirúrgicas y la reconstrucción de tejidos son procedimientos frecuentes en la medicina actual. Estos procedimientos implican volver a unir las superficies de los tejidos biológicos o asegurar los dispositivos implantados como mallas quirúrgicas o injertos. Los sistemas a base de adhesivos biomédicos pueden realizar estas funciones minimizando la invasión del tratamiento y reduciendo el trauma adicional que causan los elementos convencionalmente empleados como suturas y grapas. Además, las investigaciones actuales están dirigidas a ampliar el potencial de aplicación de los bioadhesivos diseñando nuevos sistemas avanzados que no solo adhieren los tejidos, sino que además poseen propiedades adicionales como capacidad antiinflamatoria, antioxidante y/o antibacteriana para mejorar su actuación. El siguiente artículo recoge una selección representativa de los tipos de sistemas adhesivos biomédicos más utilizados en medicina junto con las investigaciones más prometedoras realizadas en este ámbito.
