Abstract

La botánica de la primera mitad del siglo XVI gira en torno al De materia medica de Dioscórides. Sobresalen dos corrientes principales, una modernizadora y científica, protagonizada por los tratadistas, y otra medievalizante y empírica, representada por los apotecarios. Mattioli aprovecha las "censuras" de los escritos de Lusitano para precisar el sentido de numerosas especies controvertidas en su tiempo.
