Hablar de los inicios de la ópera en el continente americano es hablar de un fenómeno en principio ajeno a aquellos territorios, importado, europeo, llevado allá como manifestación cultural –y también como mero solaz y evasión– de quienes, llegados desde lejos, se asentaron en un nuevo mundo maravilloso e inhóspito al mismo tiempo, todavía por descubrir.
