Abstract

[EN] This article looks at several approaches to the reception of José Ortega y Gasset’s philosophical legacy among the 1939 Spanish republican exile by considering the profiles of three thinkers: José Gaos, María Zambrano, and Eduardo Nicol. Their work produced in exile offers, amongst other things, an original understanding, a heterodox reformulation, and an explicit criticism of the concept of ‘razón vital’, vital reason. Furthermore, this article reflects upon the methodological difficulties involved in reconstructing Ortega’s legacy due to the philosopher’s ambiguous and problematic relationship with the republican exile, as well as the fragmentation of his influence.
