Abstract

El acero embebido en hormigón se encuentra protegido frente a la corrosión mediante su pasivación. La razón de esta pasivación de la armadura es debida a la elevada alcalinidad del electrolito de los poros, básicamente constituido por KOH, NaOH y Ca(OH)2, alcanzando valores de pH que oscilan entre 12,6 y 14. Esta elevada alcalinidad de la fase acuosa de los poros del hormigón favorece la formación de una capa de óxidos microscópica y transparente, que la protege de su disolución anódica y la mantiene inalterada por tiempo indefi nido mientras no cambien las condiciones de servicio. Por otro lado, el recubrimiento del hormigón se comporta como una barrera física que aisla a la armadura del ambiente agresivo exterior.
