[EN] In order to study the effects of temperature on flowering date, the correlation coefficients between average maximum, mean and minimum temperatures, during 10 day periods from the 1st of October to the end of March, and the flowering dates in 38 almond varieties were calculated. In 8 of the 16 varieties studied in Palma de Mallorca the coefficients for the correlation of peak dates of flowering with the average minimum temperature are negative during October. Since the correlations are negative, this suggests that during October above average minimum temperatures have some effect in stimulating bud development in those varieties. The varieties that have shown themselves to have early flowering dates are characterized by their low chilling and low heat requirements. Among those of late flowering dates, some have high chilling requirements and low heat needs while others, have low or medium chilling requirements and higher heat needs.
