Intercalation materials of high stability have been obtained by insertion of oxyethylene compounds (crown-ethers and poly(ethylene oxide), into layered solids as phyllosilicates and vanadium oxide xerogels. Cationic or protonic conductivity, both in the layer silicate and in vanadium oxide xerogel intercalated materials, respectively, varies as a function of the nature of the guest oxyethylene compound.
