Abstract

[EN] This article aims to demonstrate a desire for imperturbability in the mature work of the Spanish writer José Martínez Ruiz, Azorín (1873–1967). This wish can be appreciated both in his literature and his life. His desire for imperturbability can be related to what Juan Marichal called the will of style, which is to say: an individuation process developed by an essayist in order to distinguish their literature and themselves from others. In these pages, Azorín’s desire for imperturbability will be identified in his work dating back to the early twentieth century. Special attention will be paid to París, bombardeado, a book published in 1919 and based on some articles written by Azorín when he travelled to Paris in the spring of 1918, in order to report for the Spanish newspaper ABC on the events of the First World War.
