Abstract

La mixospermia es un rasgo de algunas especies de plantas y consiste en la secreción de sustancias mucilaginosas al entrar las semillas o frutos en contacto con agua. El mucílago absorbe varias veces su volumen en agua y, tras secarse, adhiere la semilla a la superficie del suelo. Se ha relacionado con la germinación de semillas en condiciones de aridez y la resistencia de las semillas a la erosión; lo que sería de utilidad en la selección de plantas en restauración de áreas semiáridas en riesgo de degradación. Para discernir entre estas funciones se ha analizado la capacidad de secreción de mucílago en semillas de las familias Cistaceas, Compuestas, Crucíferas, Labiadas y Plantagináceas de las comarcas de Albarracín y Gúdar-Javalambre, y su probabilidad se ha relacionado con variaciones de precipitación y ángulo de la pendiente. El análisis de los datos dentro de cada familia botánica y usando el conjunto de las familias no ha permitido inferir cuál de las funciones de la mixospermia es más plausible.
