Proselitismo y depuraciones en el reclutamiento de los primeros regidores borbónicos de Cataluña (1707-1718)

Abstract

A diferencia de los reinos de Aragón y Valencia, en los que la implantación del régimen de la Nueva Planta se realizó de manera fulminante, como consecuencia del desenlace de la batalla de Almansa (1707), en el caso del Principado de Cataluña la aplicación de las nuevas instituciones borbónicas en el ámbito local se demoró durante más de un decenio, hasta el año 1718. En el presente artículo pretendemos analizar este largo proceso de institucionalización, cuyas principales etapas fueron la precoz instauración de los ayuntamientos de regidores en Lérida y Tortosa (1708), el mantenimiento provisional del resto de autoridades municipales hasta 1714, los posteriores procesos de escrutinio de fidelidades y de depuración política de los ediles, y finalmente la selección minuciosa de los que debían convertirse en los primeros regidores borbónicos en todos los ayuntamientos de Cataluña.
