Lugares de erudición en el Madrid del siglo XVIII: salones, gabinetes y bibliotecas

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los principales lugares elegidos por los eruditos en el Madrid del siglo XVIII para avanzar en sus estudios, a través de un método prosopográfico. Para ello nos centramos en los principales espacios donde podían dedicarse a la lectura, el estudio o la tertulia literaria con el único objetivo de aumentar sus conocimientos y cultivar su intelecto. El primero de ellos son los salones, espacios típicos de la sociabilidad de la elite ilustrada, por las discusiones literarias que suscitan y porque en ellos se produce un flujo literario, pues en los salones hay libros, se habla de libros y circulan libros, lo mismo que en los gabinetes, en los cuales el número de asistentes es más reducido. El tercer espacio son las bibliotecas públicas. Dentro de este concepto no sólo se contempla la Biblioteca Real, sobre la que ya existen muchos estudios realizados, sino analizar cómo, siguiendo su modelo, se van abriendo al reducido público lector de la época otras nuevas.
