Evolución Demográfica y diferenciación funcional. El Páramo (León)

Abstract

This paper is concerned with generally accpted hypothesis that irrigation is an instrument for demographic policy in the sense that it has an induced effect on the increasing of population in specifics areas In the case of “EL Paramo (León)”, here analysed the hypothesis is not confirmed. Its demographapic evolution depends on the fonctional especialization are related to the size of rural communities and regression coefficients estimated. In the present conditions of Spain’s integration in ECC, irrigation becomes an instrument for structural reform in order to increase productivity and stability of production; demographic or social goals are marginal.
