Ca++ and OH- leaching at 20°C and 40°C have been studied by means of the ANSI/ANS-16.1-1986 test. Mixtures of a Portland cement (Type 1-35) and a synthetic boiling water reactor (BWR) evaporator concentrate solution were prepared at solution/cement ratios of 0.53 and 0.65. After a curing period of 28 days, the samples were submitted to leaching attack in de-ionized water. Monitoring of leaching kinetics and analysis of the leached solid phases showed that the kinetics is controlled by diffusion. The degradation of the material over time is estimated from the calcium effective diffusivity.
