[ES] La Fundación Lázaro Galdiano de Madrid conserva en su archivo una interesante colección de diez cartas enviadas por el pintor Francisco Pradilla Ortiz a su amigo fotógrafo, pintor y crítico de arte Antonio Cánovas y Vallejo, escritas entre el 7 de junio de 1900 y el 9 de junio de 1904. Pradilla se encontraba en aquellos momentos desarrollando una intensa actividad pictórica y Cánovas y Vallejo dio noticia de las expuestas en el Salón Amaré de Madrid en el periódico La Época. Por otra parte, estas cartas muestran el interés de Pradilla por la fotografía y el apoyo que prestó a Cánovas animándole a pintar, sobre todo después del poco éxito alcanzado en la Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes de 1904. Además, en ellas se hace referencia a la situación económica del pintor aragonés tras la quiebra, en 1886, de la Casa de Cambio «Hijo y Sobrinos de Villodas» en la que tenía depositados todos sus ahorros y que le sumió en un profundo desánimo

[EN] The Lazaro Galdiano Foundation (Madrid) preserves in its Archive an interesting collection of ten letters sent by the painter Francisco Pradilla Ortiz to his friend, the photographer, painter and art critic Antonio Cánovas y Vallejo, written between June 7th, 1900 and June 9th, 1904. Pradilla was at that time developing an intense pictorial activity and Cánovas y Vallejo gave notice in La Época newspaper of the artworks exhibited in the Salón Amaré art gallery. On the other hand, these letters show Pradilla’s interest in photography, as well as the support that he provided to Cánovas encouraging him to paint, especially after the little success achieved in the 1904 National Exhibition of Fine Arts. Also, they refer to the economic situation of the Aragonese painter after the bankruptcy, in 1886, of the Exchange House “Hijo y Sobrinos de Villodas” where he had deposited all his savings and which sunk him into depression.
