La distribución en España de los pastos calcícolas (alianza Mesobromion erecti) coincide con los ambientes de montaña incluibles en el piso supramediterráneo. El origen y mantenimiento de estas comunidades está relacionado con su uso como pastos de verano para ovejas, principalmente bajo régimen trashumante. Los autores destacan el valor naturalístico de estos países calcícolas y la atención que se les dedica en distintos países desde el punto de vista de su conservación.
