In the present work, methotrexate derivatives containing divalent cations (strontium, zinc and magnesium) were synthesized and characterized by different physicochemical techniques. In addition, strontium and zinc-derivatives biological activities were tested in vitro and encapsulated into chitosan microparticles as a both biocompatible and biodegradable system for their ulterior sustained release.
