Abstract

Une séquence topo-climatique de sols issus de roches volcaniques est observée dans la partie méridionale de Ténérife. Elle comporte la succesion de sols suivante, du somment vers le bas versant: sol brun andique, sol brun eutrophe, sol fersiallitique, vertisol, sol marron et sal sodique à encroútement calcaire et gypseux. La première partie expose tout d'abord les conditions écologiques actuelles de la pédogenèse sur le versant méridional. Ensuite, elle traite des caractéristiques morphologiques, physiques et chimiques de chacun des sols. Enfin, elle montre l'evolution de ces caractéristiques dans la séquence. La deuxième partie traite des caractéristiques minéralogiques et géochimiques de chaque sol et de leur évolution dans la séquence. Une interprétation générale des faits montre que la concordance entre la distribution des sols et la séquence climatique actuelle n'est qu'apparente. Dans la partie inférieure de la séquence (sol fersiallitique, vertisol, sol marron et sol sodique), les conditions climatiques auraient varié récemment: d'abord plus humides, permettant la genése des minéraux argileux : puis plus arides entrainant l'accumulation de carbonates, de sulfates et l'alcalisation de la partie supérieure du profil, à l'extrémité inférieure de la séquence.
