Las pesquerías del Guadalquivir en el siglo XVI

Abstract

El curso bajo del río Guadalquivir contaba con una gran influencia marítima y la importancia que alcanzó el puerto de Sevilla en el tráfico de Indias es sobradamente conocida. Con esta comunicación nos interesa acercarnos no al tráfico comercial, sino a la actividad pesquera. Las mareas se dejan sentir hasta la localidad de Alcalá del Río, situada a 12 kilómetros de Sevilla. En su término, al igual que en diversos puntos del Guadalquivir hasta Córdoba, se localizaban algunas pesquerías, habiendo sido la pesca una actividad económica importante para sus vecinos. En 1565, el Estado vendió a D. Francisco de Guzmán, marqués de La Algaba, la jurisdicción sobre ciertas haciendas y cortijos en Alcalá del Río, entre los que se encontraban también unas pesquerías en el río. Este hecho levantó la protesta de la ciudad de Sevilla y dio lugar a una abundante documentación que llega hasta el Consejo de Hacienda y que nos permitirá conocer distintos aspectos relacionados con estas pesquerías, como su configuración, la navegación por el río, las especies que se pescan y su posterior comercialización.
