Somos cristianos, no judíos.

Abstract

[EN] One of the more recurrent issues in studies of the Portuguese in the colonial Peru has been its consideration as judaizers. In fact, the process started by “the great conspiracy” that ended in the auto-da-fe in 1939 showed that the largest number of prosecuted by the felony of judaizing were Portuguese. However, among the group of the accused we have found some that did not judaize and others, that having been judged, were free of suspicion. The present article analyses some of the stories of this second group. Some were in Lima at a later date and made a will, which reveals that the stigma of Jewish that sometime weighed on them did not affect their relationships with their environment
