Abstract

Federico Olmeda (1865-1909), a Spanish composer, chapelmaster, organist and writer, had a wonderful library with musical and theoretical works in manuscript and print from the Middle Ages to the 20th century by some of the most important Spanish composers and theorists. After his death, this important collection was sold to the German bookdealer Karl W. Hiersemann, who published a detailed sale catalogue (today a rare item) of the collection; eventually the collection was acquired by Archer M. Huntington, founder of the Hispanic Society of America in New York. The article provides a chronological inventory of the collection, an inventory of a group of vocal and instrumental works of the 17th and 18th centuries, and Hiersemann´s prefaces to the Catalogue in Spanish and English.
