Ángel triunfante y palacio de la pobreza: imagen barroca del convento granadino del santo Ángel (S.XVII)

Abstract

Entre las cualidades del Barroco está la de sorprender, sobre todo en cuestiones de devoción. Un convento granadino, Fundado en 1626 con el título del Ángel Custodio, nace con la curiosa aspiración de sorprender, en todos los sentidos. Poco podía aportar un nuevo convento femenino entre tantos existentes en la ciudad. Y, sin embargo, el convento del Ángel Custodio reunía interesantes ingredientes: el nacimiento noble de su fundadora, su vocación religiosa incluso contra la voluntad de su padre, la austeridad de vida de las religiosas... Las monjas eran ejemplares en la pobreza tanto como la iglesia del convento en suntuosidad. La apertura de esta iglesia en 1661 significa el triunfo de la vida religiosa, toda una exaltación del arte y sus artistas.

Este trabajo se inscribe en la actividad desarrollada en el seno del Proyecto de Investigación del Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad HAR2011-26435-C03-03 (El hecho cotidiano en la Monarquía española de la Edad Moderna: lo doméstico, entre lo privado y lo público. Historia comparada entre el interior y la periferia 3. Granada).
