Aeromonas hydrophila es una bacteria Gram-negativa, miembro del género Aeromonas que está mundialmente distribuida en ambientes acuáticos como ríos, lagos y estuarios. Esta bacteria es un patógeno oportunista de peces, anfibios, reptiles, mamíferos y también está presente en el hombre. En algunas especies de peces como la carpa y el bagre, A. hydrophila provoca una enfermedad definida como septicemia por aeromonas móviles (MAS), que causa elevadas mortalidades en las granjas de cultivo y, por tanto elevadas pérdidas económicas.
