[EN] From the beginning of modern research into Hispanic architecture of late antiquity and the early medieval period, there has been a need to interpret an architecture that unfortunately is without a secure chronology and the benefit of accurate archaeological fieldwork. The use of parallels was therefore an alternative way of dating buildings, western (or Carolingian) and eastern (or Byzantine and Muslim) influences often being the main chronological arguments. Modern archaeological methods, applied in recent fieldwork undertaken in most of these buildings, are revealing new facts, allowing us to reopen the discussion about their chronology, interpretation and layout.
