One-pot self-assembly of trinuclear silver(I) clusters containing propargyl alcohols and bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) ligands

Abstract

The reaction of silver(I) nitrate with the propargyl alcohols HCtriple bond; length of mdashCCRR′OH (R = R′ = H, Me and R = Me, R′ = Et) in the presence of Et3N and bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) affords the trinuclear silver clusters [Ag3(μ3-η1-Ctriple bond; length of mdashCCRR′OH)(μ-dppm)3](NO3)2 in high yields. The complexes were fully characterised by spectroscopic techniques, and, in the case of rac-[Ag3{μ3-η1-Ctriple bond; length of mdashCC(Et)(Me)OH}(μ2-O-NO3)(μ-dppm)3]NO3 · CH2Cl2 by single crystal X-ray diffraction. This high-yielding one-pot self-assembly process represents a safe and simple method for the assembly of trinuclear silver(I) acetylide clusters from simple, commercially available reagents.
