Abstract

This paper shows the results of the archaeological analysis of the architectural re - mains of the basilica of Segóbriga. It exposes that the current building actually reuses a previous one, which determines its half-rock form. That construction commonly identified as basilica, form and function here discussed, is constructed in a second moment and reuses architectonic sculpture dated to the Visigothic period. The hall is introduced either in that moment or a bit later. After a long period of abandonment, some reforms are carried out in the building before being definitely deserted. That building recor - ded by J. Cornide at the end of the 18 th century will be then and later on successively excavated and restored. All these activities together will be responsible for its current structure.
